You are what you eat
How many times have we been told 'You Are What You Eat'?
Did you ever stop to think about that? Many times what we eat, when applied to people, is a derogatory term.
For example:
- Chicken
- Pig
- Cow
- Shrimp
- Fruit
- Nut
- Vegetable
And other terms such as:
- Cheezy
- Greasy
- Crabby
- Fishy
The only food terms that have a good connotation are desserts, which the people who said 'you are what you eat' really didn't intend: Things like 'sweet', and terms of endearment like 'honey-bun'.
I'm curious. Do these terms transfer across languages, or is it an 'english only' thing? If you know, please share.
Just something to get your brain in gear.
